Man Convicted of Maldonado Homicide Receives Ten Year Prison Sentence

A 37-year-old man has been convicted of the homicide of a 51-year-old in Maldonado. The crime occurred on January 29 in a house located on Rafael Pérez del Puerto and Artigas Boulevard.

The investigation into the death led to the conviction of another 29-year-old man, who was sentenced to seven years in prison as a co-author of the crime. Meanwhile, the main suspect in the case had managed to evade capture until recently.

The 37-year-old man, who had been identified by the authorities but remained at large, was finally apprehended on Monday while traveling with a woman on a bus. Two police officers recognized him and alerted their colleagues, which led to an operation being set up at the San Carlos terminal to apprehend him.

Following his arrest, the woman accompanying him was released, and the 37-year-old man was subsequently sentenced to ten years in prison for his role in the homicide.

The victim, a 51-year-old man, was found dead on the morning of January 29 in an apartment in the Artigas and Pérez del Puerto Boulevard area of Maldonado. According to police sources, the body had a gunshot wound to the mouth.

The successful apprehension and conviction of the suspect bring closure to the case, which had been under investigation since the discovery of the victim’s body. The sentences handed down to the two individuals involved reflect the seriousness of the crime and the commitment of the authorities to justice.
