Mamata Banerjee Slams PM Modi Over IPL 2025 Final Venue Shift

The stage is set for the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium on June 3. Royal Challengers Bangalore has already secured their spot in the final after winning the first qualifier. The second qualifier will be played at the same stadium, and the winner will be the second finalist.

Initially, the final was scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 25, but it was postponed and the venue was changed. This move has sparked a reaction from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi without mentioning his name.

After the IPL was postponed, the new schedule was announced, but the BCCI didn’t reveal the playoff venues. There were rumors that the final might be shifted from Kolkata to Ahmedabad due to potential rain in Kolkata around June 3. Mamata Banerjee criticized the decision, saying that big matches, including IPL and Team India games, are being held in Ahmedabad.

Mamata Banerjee stated, “I don’t build stadiums or railway lines with my name. I don’t need publicity. Living as an ideal person is enough. You’ve built the Modi Stadium and are hosting all matches there. Why aren’t there any matches in Karnataka, Kerala, or Bengal? Why are all matches being held in Gujarat?”

The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad has a capacity of 1.32 lakh spectators, making it the world’s largest cricket stadium. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the first qualifier in Mohali, securing their spot in the final. The Eliminator and Qualifier 1 venues were also changed from Hyderabad to Mohali.

The winner of the Eliminator (GT vs MI) will play Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings on June 1. The winner of that match will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final on June 3.
