Mallorca keeps the last American pearl

The final day of the market in Europe had a series of movements in store, including several involving the fate of American players, such is the case of Matthew Hoppe, who will become a new Mallorca player during the 2021/22 season in LaLiga, after the rapid irruption he had during the last season with Schalke 04, a team to which he will say goodbye after losing the category in Germany.

As it became known in the last hours, Mallorca will stay with the 20-year-old American striker who recently shone in the Gold Cup with the United States team, where he won his first title with the national team and will now face a new challenge, having made his debut last season in the Bundesliga.

The Californian forward was part of the Barça Residency Academy in Arizona, before making the leap towards European football, where he finished his training with Schalke 04, club with which he appeared and with which he had great performances, among which was the hat-trick with which he became the first American to score a treble in German football.

Hoppe had missed the first games of the season with the German team and played 16 minutes against Fortuna Düsseldorf, last weekend, before resolving his future and continuing his career in Spanish football, on loan to Mallorca until the end of the season and even this Tuesday, he could be observed completing the medical tests at the Spanish club’s facilities, to finalize the last details of his transfer.

Hoppe played 22 Bundesliga games last season, scoring a total of 6 touchdowns and one assist, while with the US National Team, The Californian attacker received his first call-up in the Gold Cup, in which he completed 5 games and scored a goal in addition to an assist, in a tournament in which the North American team won the title after beating Mexico in the final.

US presence in LaLiga grows

With the arrival of Matthew Hoppe to Mallorca, Spanish football will add another American element and the attacker will join Matt Miazga, recently signed by Alavés, as well as Yunus Musah and Sergiño Dest, from Valencia and Barcelona, respectively, during LaLiga’s 2021/22 campaign.
