Mali: extremists attack village, kill 44

A military official told AFP that gunmen had attacked three villages in Mali, near the border with Niger. According to the sources, “the terrorists entered the village and killed whoever they were.”

The military officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “Twenty civilians were killed in Coro, fourteen were killed in Otagona and one was killed in Dow Gift.”
In the African country of Mali, three days of mourning have been declared following violent attacks by extremists, according to officials. The armed assailants carried out organized attacks in several villages in the north of the country. At least 44 people died in the incidents.

Meanwhile, the Malian army is looking for the attackers. Several local groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS are active in Mali, but it is not yet clear which terrorist group is involved. The missions of the UN and the EU are also active in the African country.

Attack on Burkina Faso troops

Twelve soldiers were killed and another eight wounded in the attack in neighboring Burkina Faso. Communications Minister Osini Tambora confirmed the attack and said that ground troops and the Garcia Rapid Intervention Force were also attacked.

The attack is believed to have taken place in the northwestern Bokiol region of Mohon. “We will continue to fight the war being waged by the oppressive powers in our country,” said President Rosh Mark Christian Kabure in a tweet against the deadly attack.
