Malaysia eases hiring conditions for foreign workers

Malaysia is now ramping up the recruitment of foreign workers due to the shortage of local workers in key industries.

Malaysia’s Home Minister Saifuddin Nasutiun told reporters on Tuesday that quotas for industries would be scrapped to speed up the hiring of foreign workers.

Saifuddin Nasutiun added that employers are no longer required to meet other conditions, including the quota limit, before hiring foreign workers from 15 countries.

According to Al Arabiya News, he added that this temporary exception is limited to one year and will be applied only to new applications.

It should be noted that Malaysia is accelerating the recruitment process and the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken over the recruitment process from the Ministry of Human Resources. Last year, Malaysia approved only 676,000 out of a total of 1.6 million job applications received.
