Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chako was arrested on Saturday by the Kerala Police over alleged drug use. The arrest follows a complaint filed by actress Vincy Alosius, who accused Chako of misbehaving with her on set while under the influence of drugs. According to officials, a medical examination and further proceedings will follow shortly.
Charges Against the Actor
The police have booked Chako under sections 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Section 27 pertains to the consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance, while Section 29 deals with abetment and criminal conspiracy.
The arrest came a day after the Kochi City Police issued a notice to Chako, directing him to appear for questioning regarding an incident where he allegedly fled a hotel during an anti-drug raid. The police had received a tip about drug use at the hotel and questioned Chako for four hours.
The Incident
According to senior police officials, Chako escaped from the hotel by jumping from his room window to the second floor and then fleeing down the stairs. CCTV footage showed Chako running down the stairs. Alosius had also alleged that Chako touched her dress while under the influence, and she vowed never to work with him again.
The police investigation is ongoing, and Chako’s case is being handled by the Ernakulam North Police Station, as the incident fell within their jurisdiction.
