Maikel Franco starts triple play in the defeat of the Nationals

Eric Lauer lasted seven innings, while Rowdy Tellez and Tyrone Taylor homered for the Milwaukee Brewers, who thrashed the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Friday night.

The Nationals didn’t score but put up a couple of big plays. In the top of the seventh inning, they attempted a home run from the field. At the bottom, they executed a triple play.

Washington trailed 2-0 when Lane Thomas hit the ball deep into center field for a 3-pointer. However, he was retired at the plate when he tried to extend the ball into a home run.

The Brewers had runners on first and second, with no basemen in the seventh inning, when Mexican Luis Urías hit a ground ball to third baseman Maikel Franco.

The Dominican stepped on the bag to start the triple play, from 5 to 4 to 3. It was the first triple play for the Nationals since July 30, 2016 in San Francisco.

Lauer (4-1) and Nationals starter Erick Fedde (2-3) were in a scoreless game until Urias walked in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Christian Yelich hit for a fielder’s choice, Tellez found Fedde’s next pitch and put the ball in the second deck of the stands.

For the Nationals, the Venezuelans César Hernández 4-0, Alcides Escobar 3-0. The Dominicans Juan Soto 4-1, Nelson Cruz 4-2, Franco 4-1, Víctor Robles 3-0.

For the Brewers, the Mexican Urías 2-0. The Venezuelan Omar Narvaez 4-1.
