Superstar Mahesh Babu’s mainstream entertainment film ‘Sarkaru Vaari Pata’ continues to dominate theaters. Despite its mediocrity after its release, ‘SVP’ went from strength to strength in terms of grossing, making it the fastest film to gross Rs 100 crore at the regional (worldwide) box office.
‘Sarkaru Vaari Pata’ crossed the Rs 100 crore (Rs 100.44 crore) mark in just five days, making it the fastest Telugu film to gross Rs 100 crore, while Mahesh Babu became Mahesh Babu’s fourth consecutive over Rs 100 crore film. The film has earned Rs 160.2 crore worldwide in five days.
On the other hand, other high-priced Tollywood movies, ‘Radhe Shyam’ and ‘Acharya’, crashed at the box office despite huge publicity before their theatrical release. ‘Acharya’, which opened on April 29, had a poor opening, disastrous in the first week at the box office.
‘Acharya’ had a gross of Rs 41 crore in the opening weekend and despite the film starring Chiranjeevi and his son Ram Charan, the total box office gross of the film is Rs 45.2 crore. Theatrical rights to the film ‘Acharya’ directed by Koratala are valued at Rs 133 crore, while ‘Radhe Shyam’ starring Prabhas falls into this category.
Theatrical performance of ‘Radhe Shyam’ faded away. The high-budget film struggled to earn a significant amount at the box office due to poor word of mouth. At the end of its stage performances in all languages, ‘Radhe Shyam’ earned a total of Rs 83 crores, while the stage rights were Rs 200.5 crores, resulting in a huge loss of Rs 117 crores.
