FC Porto’s handball coach, Magnus Andersson, didn’t hide his frustration after the Super Cup defeat against Sporting. It was a tough loss to take. Andersson was quick to congratulate the opposing team, acknowledging Sporting as a strong opponent.
However, the coach was particularly disappointed by how his team performed. He noted that FC Porto started well, playing solid handball for the first 20 to 25 minutes. But then problems surfaced, especially in defense. Early on, the opponents found too much space, launching several counter-attacks that hurt FC Porto.
Things got worse with a crucial three or four-minute spell filled with technical errors. Sporting capitalized on these mistakes, building a significant lead. In the second half, the Dragons tried to react and claw their way back into the game. Yet, they struggled in many moments, often losing out in one-on-one duels.
Andersson made it clear what needs to happen next for his squad. He stated that his players simply “need to be much, much stronger and smarter.” He felt there wasn’t much more to say about the final score itself. Despite creating some chances, FC Porto’s ultimate takeaway is a clear need to improve their defensive work.
