Magnitude 5.3 Sumatra Earthquake Occurs 401 km from Phuket

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit north of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was 56 kilometers deep, southwest of Phuket, about 401 kilometers away. This happened at 9:58 am local time.

The earthquake didn’t affect Thailand and didn’t trigger a tsunami. It’s not related to recent earthquakes in Myanmar.

The Thai Meteorological Department’s earthquake monitoring division reported this.
