The Venezuelan opposition’s unity candidate for the 2024 parliamentary electionsMaria Corina Machadoreported this Wednesday about a violent attack during a campaign event in the Miranda State of a hundred people who used it Sticks and stonesand that they were “protected” by the police
“Apparently (Venezuelan President Nicolás) Maduro only intends to take part in an election the hard way. I draw the world’s attention to the violent attack we suffered this afternoon in Charallave, Miranda State. More than “a hundred regime groups attacked with sticks and stones, injuring several of those present,” Machado said on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
He also assured that The police present during the events did nothing to stop the attacks, which would amount to “protecting armed groups”. He then posted some pictures of the meeting before the event, showing dozens of people supporting the opposition leader.
“They are afraid of people who want change, they are afraid of clean elections, they are afraid of the national feeling of boredom that will lead us to freedom! We will defeat them in the elections this year. “You know!” he added.
The The Venezuelan judiciary has decided to disqualify Machado despite the 2023 Barbados Agreementsigned by the government and the opposition with a view to holding general elections in which each political actor recognizes the right of the other to choose his candidate freely and in accordance with internal mechanisms.
However, the political crisis caused by the non-compliance with the agreement has not led to an end and both parties formally maintain their participation in the dialogue process.
