Madrid, venue for the European Triathlon Championship in 2023

The European Triathlon Federation confirmed the choice of Madrid as the organizing city of the European Championship, from June 2 to 4, the most important of the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle, within the competition calendar established for 2023. In addition to the Elite men’s and women’s races, the Spanish capital

will also host the European Paratriathlon and Age Group competition in sprint and standard distance (with the finish line located at the Royal Palace), which will unite More than 2,000 athletes from more than 30 countries in Madrid, positioned as the great European capital of triathlon.

In fact, Madrid has a great tradition in organizing this type of event since 2002, when the first European was held in Spain, as well as multiple World Cups in the discipline. In addition, the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) also has extensive experience hosting European championships, such as the one in Valencia in 2004, the one in 2011 in Pontevedra, and again the one in Valencia in 2021 after the pandemic.

“With this concession, Madrid returns to the highest organizational level in the world of triathlon, since in 2013 the last round of the World Series will be held to date, and we are very satisfied”, explained the president of the FETRI, José Hidalgo. “Next year, Spain will be the epicenter of the world triathlon” assured Hidalgo, who highlighted the organization of the two world championships, the grand finale of the World Series in Pontevedra, the Ibiza Multisport Triathlon World Championship, and the Europe in Madrid.
