The city of Madrid is moving forward with its plans to host a Formula 1 race, and it seems they’re making great progress. As reported, there’s already a chosen date for the first race in 2026 – September 6, to be exact. This historic moment will mark the beginning of a new era for F1 in Spain’s capital.
Recall that the Spanish Grand Prix will be held in Madrid from 2026 to 2035, thanks to a signed agreement to bring a new circuit to the city. So, by the start of the last month of summer next year, we can expect to witness the first test of an event that will be held for at least a decade.
The New Circuit
The new circuit will boast an impressive 5.47 kilometers of track, featuring 20 curves. Plans also include the construction of a parking lot that can accommodate around 10,000 vehicles, as outlined in the draft that showcases the master plan for the project.
Construction Timeline
It’s also been revealed that the construction of the brand-new circuit, which will host the F1 Grand Prix in Madrid, is set to begin at the end of April next year, or possibly early May if there are any delays. With the project underway, Madrid is one step closer to becoming a part of the F1 calendar.
