Madrid, capital of world beach volleyball

Madrid began this Wednesday two weeks where it will breathe beach volleyball. The Puerta de Hierro Sports Park will host two events of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, one for men from May 11 to 14, another for women from May 18 to 21, and the first round of the men’s Nations Cup, which will be held on the 15th and 16th of this month.

The authorities visited the renovated facilities of the Puerta de Hierro Sports Park Beach Volleyball Center and presented the three events. Sofía Miranda, Sports Councilor of the Madrid City Council, Alberto Tomé, Deputy Councilor for Sports of the Community of Madrid, and Felipe Pascual, President of the FMVB, together with other representatives of the City Council and the Community of Madrid, they checked the state of the facilities after the improvement works and received some of the Spanish athletes who will participate in the competition.

Alberto Tomé positively assessed that “for the third consecutive year, Madrid is the epicenter of major international events. Through sport, Madrid grows by increasing the number of events and promoting women’s sport so that it reaches the heights it deserves”. Sofía Miranda expressed her satisfaction for “consolidating this event on the international calendar and the city of Madrid as organizer” and congratulated the FMVB for obtaining the Green Sport Flag certification, in “a commitment to sustainability, as we want it to be with all the events in Madrid”.

The President of the Madrid Federation and Vice President of the RFEVB, Felipe Pascual, expressed his happiness at the start of the tests: “The day has come. Many have been working in conjunction with local administrations. Now, we are receiving the athletes, we have 15 days of beach volleyball ahead to enjoy a competition where we hope to repeat the successes of previous editions”.

Madrid consolidates its presence on the international calendar with these three events, after two years of hosting FIVB World Tour events and a phase of the CEV Continental Cup.In addition to these top-level events, the Puerta de Hierro Sports Park will host the European Under-18 Championship next August beach volleyball, “the widest beach volleyball offer in our history in Madrid”, concluded Pascual.
