Mad Lions Koi and Nisqy’s SK Gaming: A Redemption Arc to KOI’s Dream Esports Journey

LEC Playoffs: Spanish Teams Face Off in Must-Win Matches

The second week of the LEC Playoffs begins tomorrow, with three Spanish teams, Team Heretics, GiantX, MAD Lions KOI, and KCorp, fighting for their lives in the loser bracket.

Spanish Derby Sets the Stage

The first match of the afternoon will be the Spanish derby between Team Heretics and GiantX, a direct duel that will decide which of the two teams goes to the LEC Finals. The second BO3 of the afternoon will feature MAD Lions KOI and KCorp.

Rivalry Renewed

It is well known that the rivalry between MAD Lions KOI and KCorp is one of the most fervent in the LEC, and after the first two splits without KCorp in the Playoffs, this will be the first clash between both organizations outside the regular season.

MAD Lions KOI: The Underdog

The regular season this summer for MAD Lions KOI has been the weakest of the three splits, with only two wins and having gone to the playoffs against Rogue and Vitality. Against KCorp, the marquees threw an advantage of more than 10K gold, and if the question of who is the favorite had been asked before the playoffs began, most would have given the French as the main candidates.

Evolution and Mental Toughness

At the game level, it seems that MAD Lions KOI’s evolution towards these Playoffs is quite favorable compared to what we saw in the regular phase, but we will have to see how Melzhet’s men are mentally. The two ‘clashes’ against Team BDS have surely affected the team negatively, but many positive things can be taken from the series against the Swiss, and we will see if the Spanish are able to put them back on the Rift.

SK Gaming on the Horizon

The tie against KCorp could be the end of MAD Lions KOI’s Summer Split, but not in 2024, as there are still LEC Finals ahead for which they have already qualified. In case of victory, Melzhet’s men would continue advancing along the loser bracket to a round in which the SK Gaming team is already waiting.

German Team’s Flaws

The German team won the regular season, but suffered a clear defeat against Fnatic by 2-0, and perhaps they have shown more flaws as a team in BO3 than in BO1. Nisqy is not looking so good in these playoffs, although in this split he has practically never been the main carry, with the two ‘monsters’ of this team being in the side lanes.

Outrageous BO3

A BO3 between MAD Lions KOI and SK Gaming to see which of the two makes it into the BO5 of this summer split could be an absolute outrage, given the narrative arc of MAD Lions KOI in this summer split.

The Road Ahead

The narrative arc of MAD Lions KOI in this summer split is not even written by the best scriptwriter, with the tents depending on Nisqy to qualify for the Playoffs, some heart-stopping playoffs and now a loser bracket with KCorp and the Belgian midlaner himself in front. The ‘biggest villain’ of the league and the French team, the two biggest rivals of the Spanish team in the LEC.
