The macOS 12 Monterey public beta, Apple’s next major version of macOS is now available for download.
The new version of macOS incorporates some of the new features we saw on iOS 15 like the new FaceTime, Focus Time, Quick Notes, etc.
One of the most striking news is Universal Control, which lets you use a single mouse and keyboard to use a Mac and an iPad at the same time seamlessly, simply placing the devices next to each other and moving the mouse cursor between screens. This functionality, however, is not available in this week’s beta.
Another novelty is AirPlay for Mac, which brings AirPlay functionality to the screen and speakers of any Mac computer. You can play content, give presentations, and share just about anything – whether it’s movies, games, vacation photos, or projects – from your iPhone or iPad to Mac viewing Retina Screen.
Safari launches a streamlined tab bar and takes organization to another level with tab groups, shortcuts come to the Mac to automate the most common tasks and Concentration reduce distractions to increase productivity.
To download the beta version of macOS Monterey, you can access Apple’s beta site. If this is your first time, you will need to register your Mac to access the public beta. After signing up, you will receive a notification whenever there is a new public beta available that you can install from Software Update in System Preferences.
macOS Public Beta comes with a default application for Feedback Assistant which allows you to send feedback directly to Apple whenever you encounter an issue that needs to be resolved. You can launch the Feedback Wizard from the Dock or by selecting ‘Send feedback’ from the Help menu.
The public beta version of macOS is still under development, which means that some applications and services may not work as expected and your data may not be backward compatible. Be sure to back up your Mac with Time Machine before installing the software.
