Machado connects three hits in the victory of the Padres

Jurickson Profar hit a three-run homer, MacKenzie Gore struck out 10 in five innings and the San Diego Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-5 on Wednesday night.

Gore (2-0) gave up one run on five hits in the Padres’ seventh win in nine games. Eric Hosmer drove in two runs, including a home run to lead off the eighth.

San Diego will look for its second sweep of the season on Thursday against the Reds, who have lost 12 of their last 13 games amid a series of injuries and potholes.

Cincinnati’s 3-15 record is the worst in the major leagues.

The Reds’ Cuban starter, Vladimir Gutiérrez (0-4), pitched four innings and gave up six runs and five hits. He walked six and struck out a couple.

Gutierrez walked to load the bases with one out in the second inning, but allowed only one run on Luis Campusano’s sacrifice fly and struck out CJ Abrams to end the threat.

For the Reds, the Dominican Arístides Aquino 2-0.
