Lyon: why the club will part ways with Marcelo

Marcelo’s adventure at Olympique Lyonnais comes to an end. Arrived in the summer of 2017 from Besiktas, the Brazilian defender was excluded from the professional group and is pushed towards the exit, due to his behavior considered “inappropriate” in the locker room after the scathing defeat, on Sunday, in Angers (3-0).

Like his team, Marcelo lived a real ordeal on the pitch at the Raymond-Kopa stadium. Completely overwhelmed, he who had already been the author of a disappointing performance during the 1weather day, he was warned for a serious foul on Mohamed-Ali Cho (36me) before marking his at the beginning of the second half. But more than his level, it was his attitude on the final whistle that angered both his leaders and his partners and precipitated his marginalization.

“Marcelo’s inappropriate behavior in the locker room after the match in Angers justifies this decision taken unanimously by the entire Olympique Lyonnais Sports Directorate,” OL said in an official press release, without giving further details. But according to some sources, Marcelo, increasingly isolated in the Lyon dressing room and who had already experienced setbacks with the fans, would have smiled at the time of captain Léo Dubois’s speech during the explanation between players after this debacle.

This attitude did not go unnoticed, especially with his coach Peter Bosz, who immediately asked his management to make decisions. And that was not prolonged with this sanction that could precede the termination of his friendly contract, which however had been extended until 2023 last March.
