Lyon’s Champions League hopes took a hit after a 2-1 loss to Lens in Ligue 1.
The team struggled to create scoring chances despite having the ball most of the time.
Lens took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Goduine Koualipou.
Lyon’s coach, Paulo Fonseca, was suspended and watched from the stands.
The team complained about a possible penalty in the first half but couldn’t score until the 79th minute.
Clinton Mata’s cross led to a goal from Georges Mikautadze, making it 1-1.
Late Drama
But Lens struck back just six minutes later.
Anass Zaroury’s long-range shot beat goalkeeper Perri, securing the win for Lens.
This was Zaroury’s first Ligue 1 goal, and it was a memorable one – a powerful shot into the top corner.
The loss leaves Lyon seventh with 54 points, four points behind the top three.
Lens is eighth with 48 points. Lyon needs a strong finish to the season to qualify for European competitions.
