Luuk de Jong: PSV Walk of Fame Honor Fuels Injury Recovery

Currently recovering from a knee injury, veteran striker Luuk de Jong said a recent emotional tribute from his former club PSV Eindhoven has provided significant motivation for his rehabilitation and future ambitions with FC Porto.

The 35-year-old Dutch forward, who is training at FC Porto’s facilities in Olival, shared that the gesture gave him “a lot of strength to continue recovering” from his left knee injury. He noted that being injured often involves solitary gym work.

“Going back there and getting a great farewell from PSV gave me even more energy to return as soon as possible,” De Jong told FC Porto media, emphasizing the tribute’s significance.

The honor last Saturday in Eindhoven saw De Jong inducted into PSV’s Walk of Fame. The moment was particularly moving as he had not had a formal opportunity to bid farewell to the club’s supporters previously.

“It was a great honor PSV gave me, it was very emotional,” De Jong stated. He added that it was “good to be back, to see everyone again and talk to them again.”

During halftime of PSV’s match against Go Ahead Eagles, De Jong walked around the pitch to a standing ovation, with fans singing his name. He described this as a “very emotional” and unforgettable experience.

De Jong, who scored 186 goals in 338 appearances for PSV, expressed pride in his successful tenure with the Dutch club. He also conveyed his commitment to making a similar impact at FC Porto.

“I am happy with the moment I chose FC Porto, it was a great decision for me,” he said, despite his recent injury. “I hope to make an impact here too and win trophies, that’s my goal, of course, to leave a mark here at FC Porto too.”
