Lupillo Rivera Reveals Progressive Hearing Loss to Children, Hints at Music Retirement

Lupillo Rivera, the powerhouse voice of regional Mexican music, is facing one of the toughest challenges of his career and personal life. The brother of the late Jenni Rivera recently shared some heartbreaking news. He is slowly losing his hearing, a problem that has pushed him to the very edge.

He didn’t make this announcement in a grand press conference. Instead, he chose a deeply personal setting: an interview with his own children. This emotional conversation later aired on Univision’s popular morning show, “Despierta América.” For several weeks, Lupillo kept the real reason for his sudden departure from “La Casa de los Famosos All-Stars” under wraps, only calling it a “critical situation.” Now, he has bravely told the full story of his struggle. His voice cracked with emotion as he explained, “This moment is very hard for me. I love my work so much, I love the stage, the adrenaline.”

The 53-year-old singer, known for hits like ‘Yo te extrañaré,’ explained that his hearing loss mostly affects his right ear. His left ear also has problems. This condition doesn’t just mess with his music career; it impacts his daily life too.

“I don’t hear my alarms in the morning when I wake up anymore,” he shared. “My team tries to wake me for work, and I don’t hear the door. On stage, I have to rely on the vibrations to feel the bass, to find the right pitch. I don’t hear anything.” The most painful part? “Sometimes my children come and talk to me, and it hurts that I can’t hear them,” he admitted.

Lupillo Rivera Hints at a Break From Music, At Least for a While

His job as a musician makes things even harder. He’s constantly around loud sounds during rehearsals and performances. These high decibels, which are part of his craft, have become a direct threat to his health. Lupillo knows what his fans expect from him. “People pay for a ticket to see an artist, and that artist should be at 100 percent,” he stated. “I’m not at 100 percent. Maybe the public doesn’t notice because I’m professional and I memorize everything.”

Despite his dedication, the physical toll of each concert is clear. “I’m fighting hard,” he confessed. “I always try to sing for two hours and fifteen minutes, or even two and a half hours, and I’ve done it. But I get very tired.” This extreme tiredness, on top of his hearing problems, has raised concerns about him stepping away from performing.

However, the artist affectionately known as ‘Toro del Corrido’ has promised his fans he’ll keep giving his best as long as he has the strength. While he isn’t ruling out taking a break, his biggest wish is to keep singing and sharing his music with the world.
