Lula: "We are going to work in 2022 so that all Brazilians can have a decent life"

“We are going to work in 2022 so that all Brazilians can have a dignified life and we can once again have a country that makes us proud,” predicted the former president and leader of the Workers’ Party, Inácio Lula da Silva, which ends in 2021 with a 56% intention to vote, according to the consulting firms Ipec and Datafolha.

“Never give up and always work for a better tomorrow,” Lula encouraged ahead of the October 2022 elections.

Brazil closes the year without the large traditional public celebrations in the streets due to the advance of the Omicron variant and with other tragic floods in the State of Bahia, as already happened in 2020.

Lula sent a special greeting to “those who are suffering the floods” in the northeast. “Strength for the governors and mayors who are facing this tragedy so that people can recover what they lost and rebuild their lives,” Lula said.

While around 50 cities in the Brazilian northeast, where 24 people have already died and there were more than 11,000 evacuees, are under the water of overflowing rivers, Bolsonaro is criticized for not interrupting his holidays in Santa Catarina to go to the affected areas.

The far-right president also rejected humanitarian aid, such as that offered by Argentina.

Lula also mentioned the serious economic situation that thousands of Brazilians had to face during 2021 due to unemployment and the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our strength and solidarity for those who are going through difficulties at this time with unemployment, the pandemic, difficulties to buy food or have a decent home,” encouraged the historic union leader.

According to polls by the consulting firms Ipec and Datafolha, Lula, president between 2003 and 2010 for the Workers’ Party (PT), has a voting intention of 56%, which would allow him to win even in the first round against a falling Jair Bolsonaro free, which only adds a support of between 24% and 29%.
