Lula expels 40 soldiers from the presidential headquarters

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, separated forty military personnel stationed in the presidential residence, after promising a “deep review” of the personnel after the attacks on January 8 in Brasilia.

The measure, published this Tuesday in the official newspaper of the Union, affects officials attached to the coordination of the Palacio de la Alvorada, the official address of the heads of state.

The separated soldiers are of low ranks -soldiers, corporals, sergeants-, some of whom provided security to the place, and will continue to be linked to the armed forces, although in other activities, according to the G1 portal.

The decision follows on from an announcement by the 77-year-old leftist president, who last week expressed distrust of some uniformed officers who perform auxiliary functions in government offices.

Lula, who defeated the far-right Jair Bolsonaro in the October presidential elections, said at the time that he was convinced that there was internal complicity and that of members of the security forces in the assault on official buildings in Brasilia, the day he had been back for a week. can.

On January 8, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters invaded and razed the Planalto Palace, the Congress and the Supreme Court, seeking the fall of the president. They destroyed part of the infrastructure, vandalized rooms and damaged priceless works of art.
