Lukebakio Suspended: Old Sevilla Red Card Rules Him Out of Benfica Cup Match

Benfica’s Dodi Lukebakio will miss the Portuguese Cup fourth-round match this week after the club announced he must serve a suspension for an offense committed seven months ago while playing for Sevilla.

The Belgian international winger was expelled during a match on April 24. He was still representing Spanish club Sevilla at that time.

The disciplinary decision against him was confirmed only recently. It stipulated he must serve the penalty “in the next official match for which he is eligible.”

Benfica confirmed his absence today, Tuesday. Lukebakio is now unavailable for their upcoming clash against Atlético.

The cup tie is scheduled for 8:30 PM local time on Friday (2030 GMT). It will be played at Estádio do Restelo.

Sevilla had appealed the initial red card decision. This appeal process contributed to the lengthy delay in the suspension’s enforcement.
