The last two days of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (Lidom) witnessed the resumption of the eternal winter baseball rivalry: the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Tigres del Licey.
These games were played one in Santiago and the other in Santo Domingo, both resulting in victories for the blues by shutouts.
This would be a more than valid reason for the high school students to be happy, but in one of the games something happened that made the victory even sweeter for “El Glorioso”.
And it is that the first game was won by César Valdez, winner of the Lidom Most Valuable Player award the previous season, who extended his strong dominance to the Eagles.
After the game, and Valdez’s performance, one of the greatest legends of the eagle squad, Luis Poland, surrendered to the “Man of 5 Letters”, admitting that the Cibao team cannot hit this pitcher.
“Today I want to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar. The truth is that man… we can’t handle him. We have been trying to get to him for many years and there is no way back, “Poland assured in a video.
The “Atomic Ant” continued to highlight Valdez’s effectiveness, appearing amazed at his ability, noting that he continues to have quality starts even though the Eagles are already familiar with his repertoire.
“Even knowing the way the man is going to pitch us, we can’t put our minds together and we can make an adjustment so we can beat this man,” he said.
This departure from Valdez, who pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three, left Poland with only one explanation:
“We have to say it out loud: you are the father of the Eagles.”
