Luis García: “It is not enough, but it is a starting point”

The result was not what was desired for a Espanyol team that earned all three points, especially in a second half in which they hit the posts twice and Conan, the Cádiz goalkeeper, became the best footballer on the pitch. Luis García recognized the poor aim of a team that has eight games left to save the furniture. “You have to deserve to win, and we did many things well, but we still had to finish. They have a very clear option, but little else. If anyone is deserving of victory, it’s us. This is the line of work and illusion”he commented.

For the Asturian coach, the point is “insufficient” because everyone expected it to be “a great day”, but he recognizes that the team has to see the positive side because they cannot give up. That is why he considers it to be “a starting point”. “We have to hold on to anything positive, by centimeters we don’t take the game and we leave the door at zero”highlighted the coach, who read the game very similar to the one Sergio González did before.

Luis García saw a first part in which Espanyol was “highly strung” because it was not easy for him to manage “the emotions”. “It’s normal, they’re people,” said the coach, who on the other hand appreciated the magnificent atmosphere in the stands, with the best entry of the season (28,512 spectators). This caused the blue and white team to be inaccurate with the ball, something that was corrected in the second half “calming down the players”. “We corrected nuances and improved, we created chances, we hit two goals, they disallowed a goal… There’s no need to stress”stressed the parakeet coach.

Luis García chose to play with three central defenders because it was the best way to counteract the Cádiz system (“They start the team in a 4-2-4 and in duels they are good, but there were mismatches when they went up a side”he added) and congratulated himself on the return of Adrià Pedrosa to ownership a year later: “He made a tremendous effort to be able to be there. You can do full training sessions, but competing for 90 minutes requires a lot of demand. You will have to bear those discomforts, but it is normal ”. He also referred to Sergi Darder, who was imprecise: “He didn’t arrive burned, they left absolutely everything.”

“I saw a dressing room hurt, frustrated by the situation. We have pain because we thought it was going to be a good day but it was not possible. We must get up the next day. That is why they are footballers of the highest level. They kept fighting forever and they will. It is a very strong team mentally”ended Luis García, who will now have four days of training to prepare for the next game, against Villarreal next Thursday.
