Luis Fernández Albin Arrested for Involvement in Narcotics and Attack on National Institute

A recent wave of raids led to the arrest of Luis Fernández Albín on Friday, according to Interior Minister Carlos Negro.
The operation was carried out at the request of the Prosecution.
Negro mentioned that during one of the raids, authorities found an object at a house that led to Fernández Albín’s detention.

Luis Fernández Albín had been under investigation since December for an attack on the National Rehabilitation Institute in Montevideo.
Two shots were fired at the building, and a note was left behind.
The note read: “Prisoners are respected, Mr. Mendoza” – a reference to the institute’s director at the time.

This incident was linked to the transfer of Diego Fernández Albín, reportedly a relative of Luis, from a low-security prison to a maximum-security unit.
Police made the connection between the attack and the prison transfer.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the events that led to Luis Fernández Albín’s arrest.
