The general secretary of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Luis Chanlatte fully defended the suspension measures to five national sports federations, announced last week.
In a communication addressed to Listín Diario, Chanlatte made the following statement:
“In the 77 years since that institution was founded, a joint measure had never been applied against affiliated federations for violating laws, regulations, procedures, statutes and basic accounting principles and ethical aspects of great depth that mark a before and after.
We invite all national federations to review their internal processes, to evaluate Law 122-05, Law 356-05, Law 340-06, Law 10-07, Law 388 and the COD statutes, among other aspects.
Chanlatte stated that the Dominican Olympic Committee accompanies all the affiliated federations to prosecute within the “Fair Play”, to promote participatory democracy to reinforce the guarantees for leaders of different opinions in the federations and within the Olympic movement.
“The Dominican Olympic Committee is committed to the Dominican society to make its actions and that of its affiliated organizations transparent in all aspects.
Chanlatte stated that the COD would never attack any sport, nor coaches, technicians, and even less the athletes who are the main actors in sports activities.
With the passage of time, even receiving poisoned darts from “wrong” and “clouded” leaders, at the end of the tunnel the light will be seen for everyone and this process will be remembered as necessary and will strengthen the movement in a general sense, including the leadership of suspended sports.
“I ask you to reflect and, above all, to act in accordance with reasonableness.”
Chanlatte stated that they are working together to organize the participation of the Dominican delegation in the Pan American Games in Chile.
I have always wanted to remind the country and the Olympic movement that in December 2022 we received an economically, ethically and morally affected COD. It will be through forceful decisions that we will be able to rescue the integrity and credibility of our organization.
