Luis Casimiro relieves Joan Plaza on the Betis bench

Coosur Real Betis and coach Luis Casimiro have reached an agreement whereby the Ciudad Real coach will take the reins of the Verdiblanco team until 2023, the Verdiblanca entity reported this Monday after making public the resignation of Joan Plaza from his bench. “The Coosur Real Betis and Joan Plaza have arrived to an agreement, at the request of the coach himself, for the separation of the Catalan with the Verdiblanca entity. The club thanks him for all his work and commitment, while at the same time wishing him luck in his next professional challenges, “explained the Andalusian club, which is bottom in the Endesa League with a balance of 2-9.

Casimiro, 61, has extensive experience in the Endesa League, with 27 seasons behind him and more than 700 matches directed since he began his career in the 1989-1990 season at CB Puertollano.

After being an assistant to Ricardo Hevia and Pedro Martínez in Lugo and Salamanca, respectively, his great opportunity in the ACB came in the 97/98 season with TDK Manresa, a team with which he won the League title and would dispute the Korac Cup.

His extensive career in the elite has put him through benches such as Valencia, Gran Canaria, Fuenlabrada, Estudiantes, Unicaja or Zaragoza, last experience in the ACB last year.

It was in Gran Canaria where he was champion again, this time in the Endesa Super Cup (2016), also managing to qualify for the Euroleague after reaching the semifinals of the league playoff eliminating Valencia Basket.

This will be the second stage of Luis Casimiro in San Pablo, where it landed midway through the 2014/15 season and remained in the 2015/16.

Casimiro helped the permanence of that first course and consolidation of the second, directing among others to the generation of Porzingis, Willy Hernangómez, Balvin and Oriola.
