Experienced Italian coach Luciano Spalletti has been appointed as Juventus’s new manager, taking the helm of the struggling Serie A club just days before a crucial Champions League fixture.
The 66-year-old manager’s contract with the Turin-based club is valid until the end of the current season. He steps into a challenging role.
Juventus currently sits seventh in Italy’s Serie A, outside the spots for European club competitions. This follows an unstable start to their domestic campaign.
Spalletti’s primary mission will be to boost team morale and replicate the “exciting football” he brought to Napoli. He notably led Napoli to the 2022/23 Italian championship title.
He replaces interim coach Massimo Brambilla. Brambilla had been in charge since the dismissal of Igor Tudor on Monday.
Spalletti had been unemployed since last June after departing the Italian national team. His last club role was with Napoli.
His extensive coaching career includes winning two Italian Cups and a Supercup with Roma. He also secured two championships in Russia with Zenit Saint Petersburg.
In a brief official statement, Juventus welcomed a coach “with so much experience and knowledge.” The club wished him the best of luck in his new role.
While Juventus secured a 3-1 victory over Udinese in their last league match, the result did little to improve their overall league standing.
