The four first appointments of the WPT have invariably repeated the same final: Gemma Triay-Alejandra Salazar (three titles) before Ari Sanchez-Paula Josemaría (one). In Brussels this monopoly ends because the Granada Lucía Martínez (30 years old) and Valladolid’s Esther Carnicero (22) they eliminated Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria and tracing the match: 2-6, 7-5 and 6-3. They break the forecasts because nobody counted on this couple that didn’t even start the season together, and furthermore, they are 18th in the ranking and none of their players have been to the quarterfinals.

It has not been the only surprise because Jessica Castelló and Alex Ciollombon leave out of the competition Tamara Icardo and Delfi Brea (number four in the ranking) with a 6-3, 4-6 and 6-3. Carmen Villalba and Ana Nogueiram also get into the quarterfinals, although in their case because the Sánchez Alayeto Twins withdrew on Wednesday due to injury.
