Lucas Anjos just signed a new deal with Sporting. He will stay with the club until June 2028. This shows the club’s strong belief in him. The young player said he felt “very happy” about the trust given to him.
Anjos has been with the Lisbon giants since 2015. He is 21 years old now. The forward has spent nearly a decade wearing the green and white jersey. He made it clear his biggest dream is to play for the main team. “I’ve been here for ten years,” Anjos told Sporting TV. “Continuing at this club proves they like my work. I hope to keep going like this, working and giving my best. I will work every day to reach the main team.”
His journey has already seen some big moments. He shared a powerful memory from his Champions League debut. That happened last January against B. Dortmund. “My life flashed before my eyes,” he recalled. “From Almeirim to Pólo EUL with my parents and my brothers. I remembered playing ball in the street, at home. I thought of all the hard work at the Academy. Everything came to mind in those seconds before I went onto the field.”
This season, Anjos had his pre-season training with coach Rui Borges. He then joined Sporting’s B team. They have started strong in the 2nd League, winning two out of two games. This good start makes the young player happy. “The 2nd League is very competitive,” Anjos explained. “We know it will be tough. We need to grow and move to the main team. That is our goal. It will be a big challenge.”
Anjos also looked back at other special times at Sporting. He remembered his first week at the Academy as very difficult. “I cried sometimes,” he admitted. But he also cherishes the joy of 2021. “I remember when Sporting won the championship in 2021,” he said. “We all celebrated together. That is a truly striking memory.”
