Los Fortuna retire, Huellas-Bameso, Mauricio-San Lázaro start semis

The night was very emotional, with the retirement as basketball players of the Fortuna brothers, José (Pancho) and Manuel (Mañén), from the Rafael Barias club.

El Barias threw the house out the window with the act of retirement of the Fortuna, despite the fact that the circumstances did not favor him with the result of the game, since El Millón won this Friday 92-89, in the closing of the regular series of the 46th Superior Basketball Tournament of the National District, in a match held at the Palacio de los Deportes Prof. Virgilio Travieso Soto.

“El Yireh” ended his participation in the 2022 contest, as did El Barias, both tied with a 2-8 mark.

For the millionaires, the best offensive players were Daniel Rey Laster with 15 points, Enmanuel Martínez 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Brayan Polanco had a double-double of 13 baskets and 11 rebounds, as well as Marvin Smith with 12 and 10 trapped.

For El Barias, Omer Suero had double figures with 14 points and 14 rebounds, Manuel Fortuna 13, Falando Jones 12 and Kevin Ramírez had 11 baskets.

Emotional retirement of the Fortuna
The Rafael Barias club celebrated this Friday night, at halftime of the match they played against El Millón, an emotional act of retirement as active players by the brothers José (Pancho) and Manuel -Mañén- Fortuna.

The Fortuna were given plaques of recognition by the directors of the Rafael Barias club with its president Miguel Merejo; Alberto Rodríguez, vice minister of the Presidency and general manager of Barias; and Juan María, Operations Manager.

In addition to the official withdrawal of the jersey number they used with Rafael Barias since the club reached the top district basketball in 2009, with which they won the titles: in their debut 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2019. In the case of Pancho, No. 4 and de Mañeé, No. 5.

In addition, the Basketball Association of the National District (Abadina) and its president, Colonel (PN), Diego Pesqueira, and the organization secretary, Gilberto De la Cruz, presented a plaque of recognition to the Fortuna, José and Manuel.

Along the same lines, Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), gave Mañén Fortuna the shirt framed with No. 5 that he wore on the national team during his participation in the Basketball World Cup. in Spain 2014. Next to Uribe was Junior Páez, administrative director of Fedombal.

The Mauricio Báez club, which opened the doors to José Fortuna in district basketball, its president, the Immortal of Sport José -Boyón- Domínguez, gave him a ball signed by him and the players of that club, for beating Domínguez himself in the all-time leadership of the assists department in the Superior Basketball Tournament of the National District.

Domínguez was accompanied by players Juan Miguel and Gerardo Suero, and Rayner Moquete.

The All-Star Basketball League, led by Raúl Peña (Koby) and Jochy Gil, also gave the Fortuna a recognition for their career as players.
Semifinal starts on Sunday
With the matches of this Friday the regular series culminated and from Sunday the semifinal stage opens, all against all, with a double game at 4:00 and 6:00 in the afternoon, in the contest dedicated to César Cedeño and for the BanReservas Cup.

Mauricio Báez (8-2) will play first against San Lázaro (6-4), and two hours later the teams from Huellas del Siglo (8-2) will do the same against Bameso (7-3).

Huellas del Siglo wins the regular series of Group B

The Huellas del Siglo club defined everything in the regular series, from Group B, by dominating the San Lázaro team this Friday 90-71, on the last day of this phase of the 2022 Superior Basketball Championship of the National District.

The Cristo Rey quintet finished with a record of 8-2, and together with Mauricio Báez they were the only teams with that number of wins in the district contest, after culminating the actions that took place at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace.

Huellas will clash against the Bameso club in the semifinalist round that begins on Sunday, all against all, in the closing match of the Sunday day, at 6:00 in the afternoon, in the fair dedicated in its 46th version to César Cedeño and for the BanReservas Cup.

The Lazareños stayed in second place in Division B with a 6-4 mark, and will face Mauricio Báez at the start of the semifinal, at 4:00 in the afternoon.

The American reinforcement Anthony Johnson was the main scorer of the night with 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, backed by Darwin Cabrera with 18 points and six catches, Randy Bautista 12 points and Jeffery Allen Jr. 11, who took seven balls each.

For Jobo Bonito’s team, Alanzo Frink had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Edgar Tejeda had 14 baskets.
