López Nieto continues ‘on fire’: Melvin Ejim, sixth to renew contract

Unicaja has announced the renewal of Melvin Ejim. The Canadian forward will continue to defend the colors of the green team until 2024 with the option of one more season.

Antonio Jesús López Nieto continues ‘on fire’. The president of the Malaga team continues to bet on a block that is giving such good results and that has achieved the historic second Copa del Rey. The first stone of this project was laid with the renovations by Juanma Rodríguez and Ibon Navarrosports director and coach respectively, both until 2026.

Then came three new contract extensions. The continuities of Kalinoski, Kendrick Perry and Djedovic. And now it is the turn of the Canadian international Melvin Ejim. The 2.03-meter, 31-year-old forward is completing his second stage at the Martín Carpena club.

Unicaja, in a statement, highlighted its importance: “The renewal of Ejim by the Malaga team ensures the presence of a player highly valued for his qualities on both sides of the track. Versatile, capable of being important to Unicaja’s game structure with prominence or from the darkest job, as well as being a very important piece in the dressing room. He is currently in his second spell at Unicaja, after being in the 2019-20 season, and his knowledge of the club and the city was crucial for the adaptation of the new signings last summer”.

Melvin Ejim is one of the three players from the Malaga squad that has played in all 44 official matches that the team has played this season, dispelling any doubts that there could be about his physical problems, in which he has had numbers of 4.4 points, 3 rebounds and a PIR of 5.4. A player who stands out more in the other basketball and the quartermaster, due to his ability to defend different pairs and to raise the physical level of the matches. He is the first interior that sees his continuity confirmed. He won’t be the last.
