The Swiss Konny Looser (Tamayo Team), showed “very happy” after winning the Titan Desert with a comeback in the last stage against the Spanish Francisco Herrero, thanks to a masterful “cut” to 3 km of finish line that helped him renew the title that he already achieved in 2021. “3 km from the finish line I knew there was a fork that I knew from last year and I played it. I didn’t know if Herrero was going to follow me or not, but I tried “I didn’t see anyone at the wheel and I pressed. I had a 50 percent chance of hitting and it was all day. It went well and the victory makes me very happy. I almost gave up a couple of times, but I had to try. You can never give up,” Looser said at the finish line. Looser’s joy contrasted at the Maadid finish with the frustration of Fran Herrero, leader for more than 600 km through almost 6 stages. At the last minute a rival ambush deprived him of glory.
“I’ve been under pressure all week, we controlled the race well, I withstood all the attacks and I had the legs to beat Looser. It’s a big disappointment. I knew these things could happen, this race is unpredictable, but you have to accept it.”, said the Segovian cyclist at the finish line. Herrero, Spanish marathon champion, explained the moment in which he began to lose the Titan.
“With 2 km to go, Konny made a cut and threw us off, we threw to the block, but he put time on me and beat me. I am very calm with myself, I have given everything. This can not continue. I will come back to win.” For her part, the Catalan Anna Ramírez, showed her satisfaction after winning three stages in this edition and the fourth Titan, which places her in the race winners with the same triumphs as Josep Betalú. “I am very happy with this fourth win, it has not been so easy because I have also had bad times. The years are noticeable. I don’t know if I’m going to come back next year because I appear every other year, but it’s a race that’s always special,” he concluded.
