On August 30, police in England apprehended a 16-year-old boy. He was near Chelsea team’s Stamford Bridge stadium. The boy was dressed as Hunk, a character from the popular game Resident Evil. His costume was very detailed, including two imitation firearms and a bulletproof vest. This happened right after a football match ended, with many people still around. Concerned citizens called the police, worried about what might happen. Footage from CCTV cameras showed officers quickly moving in to arrest him.
The boy explained he was on his way to the London Anime & Gaming Con, an event nearby. He confessed to carrying imitation weapons in public. After this, he was sent to the youth justice department. They will handle his case outside of court in an appropriate manner.
Officers on the scene quickly realized the weapons were not real. However, they had to make the arrest. Their main concern was the safety of everyone walking in the area. When something looks like a real threat, the police must act.
Adam Slonecki, a police commander overseeing London on that day, called the teen’s actions irresponsible. Walking around a crowded public place with fake weapons can cause panic. He praised the officers involved, saying they acted quickly and courageously.
Even though no harm came to anyone, this incident serves as a good reminder. Wearing military-style or tactical cosplay in public places is generally a bad idea. This holds true no matter where you are in the world. If you plan to dress up like this, it’s best to stay within designated event areas. These spaces usually have their own security measures.
