Liverpool have their sights set on the Bundesliga, particularly RB Leipzig’s impressive striker Lois Openda. Sacha Tavolieri reveals that Jürgen Klopp and his team are keen to sign the talented Belgian striker, who has turned heads with his performances in the Bundesliga.
Although Liverpool’s interest in Openda is obvious with nine goals in the Bundesliga and outstanding performances in the Champions League, signing him will not be an easy task. Leipzig have made it clear they are unwilling to sell the 23-year-old striker in the January transfer window, making a potential move even more complex.
Openda was a key figure for RC Lens last season and his absence was felt by the French side following their sale to RB Leipzig. With a standout performance against Manchester City in the Champions League, the Belgian striker has caught the attention of several top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and potentially Chelsea and Manchester United.
Liverpool are looking for a top-level centre-forward
Although Liverpool have an excellent attacking formation, they could consider strengthening their attacking line. With the likes of Darwin Núñez in the squad, Klopp could look for ways to further increase his attacking potential while considering players like Openda or Victor Osimhen.
However, the financial obstacle could be significant as Openda’s contract contains an €80 million exit clause that will not be activated until 2025. If Liverpool or another club wants to secure his services by then, they could be required to pay a significant premium, possibly in excess of €100 million.
Leipzig are aware of the value of their most valuable asset and will look to get the best possible offer in a market where quality at the striker position is in short supply. Liverpool, along with other interested clubs, could face a significant financial challenge in attracting Louis Openda to their ranks.
