He had repeatedly invoiced 4,000 euros for the 18-kilometer race. A taxi driver from Roanne was sentenced for fraud to an eight-month suspended prison sentence and to reimburse 184,394 euros, Tuesday, October 12, reports Progress. It all started with a mistake. The driver accompanies a client for his dialysis and makes a mistake by billing 4,000 euros to the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA), which takes care of the trip. But the latter did not notice anything. So the taxi was tempted and did it again, about thirty times.

Except that at the end of 2020, the MSA identifies these irregularities and files a complaint. The damage is 195,000 euros. The investigations will lead to the Roanne taxi driver, who has withdrawn no less than 70,000 euros in cash to spend in restaurants and casinos. “I put my finger in the jar of jam. I’m ashamed,” said the taxi driver in front of the criminal court on Tuesday, October 12, quoted by Le Progrès.

The courts found him guilty of fraud and sentenced him to eight months suspended prison sentence and reimbursement of 184,394 euros. The MSA’s request, which also claimed 20,000 euros in damages, was not accepted, as was the ban on gambling claimed by the lawyer for the civil parties. The latter also told him at the end of the hearing: “You will have a good time the rest of your life to repay”.
