Using the electric pulse gun twice did not stop him. The police officers called for an intervention in La Talaudière (Loire), on the night from Monday to Tuesday, they had to use their firearm to kill a 35-year-old man, who threatened them with a knife.
Originally from Togo, the man, followed by psychiatric problems and who had decided to leave the hospital where he was treated for the day, had been locked in the family apartment by his wife and son-in-law. Faced with his very agitated behavior, they later alerted the police, around 8 pm
When the police arrived and after unsuccessful conversations, the man walked towards them brandishing a kitchen knife. The officers used the electric pulse guns, but were unsuccessful. While one of his colleagues had just been shot in the arm, an officer fired a shot in the direction of the maniac. The man died a few minutes later.
He was not known for acts of violence and no manual or complaint had been filed against him, a police source told AFP.
The Stéphanois prosecutor’s office commissioned an investigation from the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN). The investigation “must be facilitated by the fact that the police intervention in the apartment was filmed by the victim’s son-in-law,” a person close to the file told AFP.
