Liverpool Crisis: Arne Slot Could Join Mourinho, Ranieri’s Post-Title Sacking Club

Liverpool manager Arne Slot faces potential dismissal after a rapid decline in performance, threatening to place him among an exclusive group of coaches sacked shortly after leading their teams to a league title.

Reports from English sports media indicate the Liverpool board is considering the Dutch coach’s future.

The club has suffered six defeats in their last seven league matches, a stark contrast to their form earlier in the season. Slot lifted a championship trophy just six months ago, making the current downturn particularly sharp.

If dismissed, Slot would join a restrictive list of managers fired the season after winning a league title.

Among them is José Mourinho, who led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2015 but was sacked in December the following season. Mourinho is currently managing Benfica.

Claudio Ranieri also experienced this fate. He guided Leicester City to a historic Premier League title in 2017 but was dismissed from his role the subsequent season.

Other coaches who had short tenures after championship wins include Roberto Mancini, who stayed only one year at Manchester City after their 2012 title. Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte also departed Chelsea after winning titles in 2010 and 2017, respectively.

Speculation about Slot’s replacement is already circulating. According to The Sun, Jürgen Klopp is the primary favorite to take over.

Klopp now serves as Global Head of Football for the Red Bull Group. He notably handed his position at Anfield to Slot when he chose to take a break from coaching.
