Little progress in the negotiations to defuse the war in Ukraine

Poco avance en las negociaciones para amainar la guerra en Ucrania

Turkey’s president and the UN secretary-general met Thursday with Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy with the aim of defusing a war that began almost six months ago. But the meeting produced minimal progress.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would follow up with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, taking into account that most of the issues discussed would require the consent of the Kremlin.

Because the meetings were so high-profile – Erdogan’s first visit to Ukraine since the start of the war and UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ second trip to the country – some expected progress, if not towards a general peace, at least on specific issues. But none of them seemed obvious.

They all gathered in the city of Lviv.
