The 300 passengers of a liner located off Argentina are free. An isolation measure imposed on the boat was lifted on Thursday after a test that excluded the presence of Covid-19 on board.
However, the ship was unable to stop at Puerto Madryn, in the south of the country. The isolation measure taken on Tuesday “as a precaution” was lifted but “the assessment of the epidemiological situation on board” continues, said the Argentine Ministry of Health.
A positive antigen test
The liner Hamburg, which cruises in the South Atlantic, was the subject of an alert this Friday during a stopover in Buenos Aires, after a suspicion of cases of coronavirus on board, against a background of fears related to the variant Omicron. Under the flag of the Bahamas, the boat had made a stopover in Cape Verde before arriving off Argentina.
All passengers and crew were tested within twenty-four hours at the Buenos Aires stopover. The tests were negative but a crew member received a positive antigen test on Monday, which has since been ruled out by a new negative PCR. The town hall of Puerto Madryn has, however, maintained its stopover ban.
The liner “continues on its way south,” said an internal source in the administration of the port of Puerto Madryn. It is not known whether he is already heading to his next stopover, Ushuaia, about 3,000 km from the capital. On the port arrivals registers, however, the Hamburg remained announced in Ushuaia for December 20.
