The father of FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, Mounir Nasraoui, recently appeared in court as a defendant in connection with a violent stabbing last August that left him seriously injured.
Nasraoui was hospitalized in serious condition following a brawl in Mataró, a town near Barcelona. Spanish media reports, including ‘La Vanguardia,’ have now detailed the dramatic events of that night.
The incident allegedly began after Nasraoui was targeted in a football field parking lot. Two brothers, their father, and a family friend reportedly waited for him there, following an earlier confrontation.
A friend of Nasraoui described a brutal assault. The attacker, who allegedly wielded an extendable knife, came from behind and stabbed Nasraoui multiple times in the chest and side. “He was going to kill him like an animal,” the friend reportedly told authorities.
The primary alleged aggressor was detained in December but has since been released. His defense claims he acted “by mistake” after picking up a knife from one of Nasraoui’s friends. The defense also stated he sustained a fractured nose from a punch.
The initial dispute reportedly occurred when Nasraoui was walking alone and water was thrown at him from a third-floor apartment. The water was allegedly thrown by a child. An argument broke out when the child’s family confronted Nasraoui on the street.
Nasraoui’s immediate reaction to police at the time was, “I was just taking a peaceful walk and they threw things at me. Either a good lawyer resolves this, or we resolve it later.” He later returned to the Mataró location with two friends, where the more serious confrontation took place.
