Ligue 1 Rejects PSG Delay Request; Nantes, Luís Castro Benefit

The French professional football league (LFP) has shut down a request from Paris Saint-Germain. PSG wanted to push back their first Ligue 1 match of the season, set for August 17 against Nantes. The Parisian club believes their players will be exhausted after a grueling summer schedule.

PSG’s season might not end until July 13. That’s the date of the Club World Cup final. The team is currently in the Champions League Round of 16 and is a strong contender to win it all. If they do, their summer break will be extremely short. They need to start defending their French league title right away against a Nantes team led by coach Luís Castro.

Just four days before their Ligue 1 opener, PSG has another massive game. They are scheduled to face Tottenham in the European Super Cup final. This match will not be moved unless something truly unexpected happens. If PSG manages to win the Club World Cup, their star players would get just one month off. Then they would jump straight into playing for the first title of the new season.

The LFP didn’t listen to PSG’s request. Their main reason is that next season’s calendar is already packed. They believe there’s no room to reschedule the game against Nantes. However, PSG isn’t giving up. The club plans to try again, especially if they make it deep into the Club World Cup. They are hoping to reach a new agreement with France’s top football body. For Nantes and Luís Castro, facing a potentially tired PSG could be a real boost.
