Life sentence for Florida pedophile who abused children in Vietnam

A man living on the west coast of Florida who traveled more than once to Vietnam, where had sexual relations with minors whom he met onlinewas sentenced to life in prison, the Florida Middle District Attorney’s Office, based in Tampa, reported Monday.

Christopher Edwin Day, 52, of St. Petersburg, Florida, had pleaded guilty of two counts of travel with intent to engage in unlawful sexual conduct and two counts of attempted coercion and solicitation of a minor into unlawful sexual activity in February 2020.

According to documents filed with the court and statements made during the process, in 2015 and 2016 Day traveled from Florida to vietnam to engage in sexual acts with Vietnamese children.

Some children were attracted with promises of money and giftswhile others were approached under the pretext that he was an English teacher.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents in Tampa and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).

"US laws will continue to catch up with child predators who even travel to foreign countries to sexually abuse minors"said HSI Tampa Deputy Special Agent in Charge John Dumas.

"Thanks to HSI’s international investigative authorities and strong partnerships at both HSI Tampa and HSI Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this sexual predator was prevented from harming more children"he added.

This case was presented as part of the Safe Childhood Projecta national initiative to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
