Licey beats Toros 11-3, becomes 3-0, Mauricio and De La Cruz stand out

Ronny Mauricio and Elly De La Cruz thundered with the wood, the bullpen shone again and the Tigres del Licey defeated the Toros del Este 11-3, in a match held this Monday at the Francisco A. Micheli stadium.

Mauricio shot three doubles, drove in two, scored two and negotiated a couple of transfers. While De La Cruz doubled and singled, he scored one and drove in two to lead the blue offense. While Charles Leblanc doubled and produced two other runs, to be the offensive pillars of the Tigers.

Right-hander Elvin Rodríguez started for the Tigers and worked four shutout innings of just one hit, two walks and five strikeouts. He was followed by relievers Jonathan Aro (1-0, 0.00) who scored his first victory of the season, Luis Frías, Elniery García, Carlos Gómez, Frank Garcés and José Marte. Los Tigres’ bullpen has pitched 18 innings of three earned runs in the first three games of the season.

Ronald Bolaños (0-1, 3.00) took the loss after allowing one earned run in three innings of work, at a pace that allowed one hit, gave up four walks and struck out four.


The Tigers rallied ahead leading off the third inning when Charles Leblanc hit a sacrifice fly with runners on third and second.

In the opening of the fifth inning and with runners on the corners, Charles Leblanc hit a double that produced the second blue run and Triston Casas with runners on third and second got the sacrifice rise that produced the third for the visitors.

In the top of the sixth and with runners on third and second, Ronny Mauricio hit a double that drove in two more runs for the Tigers.

In the first of the seventh and with two runners in scoring position, Elly De La Cruz hit a single that produced two more for Licey.

In the bottom of the seventh and with the bases loaded, Alen Hanson fumbled with a fielder’s choice and scored the runner from third and pinch hitter Enmanuel Valdez drove in the second run with a single to center.

In the top of the eighth, pinch-hitter Ramón Hernández singled to center with a runner on third for the Cats’ eighth run and Trenton Brooks homered inside the park with two runners on board.

At the end of the eighth and with runners on second and first, Alen Hanson reached base on a throw by reliever Frank Garcés and scored the third run for the locals.


For the Tigers, Ronny Mauricio 3-3, with three doubles, two runs scored, two RBIs and two walks, Elly De La Cruz 4-2 with runs scored, two RBIs and a walk and Trenton Brooks 5-2 with home run, run scored and three RBIs.

For the Bulls, Malex Smith 4-1, Brian Navarreto 2-1 with a run scored and transfer and Enmanuel Valdez 2-1 with an RBI.


The next game for the Tigres will be this Tuesday, October 18, when they visit the Cibao Giants at the Julián Javier stadium, starting at 7:00 at night.
