Liam Neeson’s Sons: Micheál’s Acting, Daniel’s Business Ventures, and Natasha’s Legacy

Liam Neeson is a star known for his powerful roles on screen. But off-camera, he’s a deeply proud father to his two sons, Micheal Richardson and Daniel Neeson. Their family story is one of enduring love and remarkable resilience.

Liam and his beloved wife, Natasha Richardson, tied the knot in 1994. Their eldest, Micheál, arrived in 1995, followed by Daniel in 1996. The family faced unimaginable sadness when Natasha passed away unexpectedly in 2009. For Liam, his main goal as a father became making sure his boys were okay. In an October 2024 chat with People magazine, Liam shared how everyone rallied. He mentioned his mother-in-law, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister-in-law, Joely Richardson, were "extraordinary" in their help. Liam felt they were "lucky in many ways" to have such support.

Today, Liam remains very close with both of his sons. They live near him in New York City. The trio even stepped out together in July 2025 for the New York premiere of Liam’s latest film, The Naked Gun. Pamela Anderson’s sons, Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee, were also there. This public appearance, especially with Anderson’s children, fueled whispers about a possible romance between Liam and Pamela. The rumors had already started earlier that month at The Naked Gun premiere in London, where Anderson gave Neeson a friendly kiss on the cheek.

Let’s take a closer look at Liam’s two sons.

Liam and Natasha welcomed their first son, Micheál, on June 22, 1995, in Dublin, Ireland. Micheál was only 13 years old when his mother died. He later spoke openly about his struggle with drug and alcohol use. He told The Sunday Times in March 2015 that he had, "subconsciously," pushed his grief away. He thought, "OK, carry on with my life."

But soon, things "started to go downhill" for him. He explained to the paper that he was "partying a lot" with friends. "It was a dark stage," he admitted. He felt like he "hit rock bottom." At the time, people would say, "This kid has lost his mother; that’s where the problem comes from." But he would deny it. "I said: ‘No, that’s not it, I just like to party.’" Looking back, he understood it was a "delayed reaction" to his mother’s death. Micheál eventually found his way through wilderness therapy in Utah. He stayed sober for months by eating dehydrated food in the Utah desert.

After his recovery, Micheál found himself drawn to acting. He believed it was a path that would have made his mother proud. "She never expressed it," he told The Sunday Times, "but I know my mother liked the idea of me becoming an actor. She would have found it great." Micheál has since appeared in several films and shows. He even worked with his father in two movies: Cold Pursuit (2019) and Made in Italy (2020). The latter film was especially close to Micheál’s heart. It tells the story of a father and son who are trying to start over after losing their wife and mother.

Micheál revealed to Observer in an August 2020 interview that he hadn’t expected to work with his dad again so soon. He had appeared briefly in Cold Pursuit. "There was a part of me that thought: ‘OK, maybe I want to move away from working with dad again,’" he shared. He didn’t want to be known as "Liam Neeson getting another role for his son." He knew it could easily seem that way. But the Made in Italy script was "so personal." The parallels to their own lives were "so close" that he couldn’t pass it up.

Micheál has also chosen a deeply personal way to honor his mother. He officially changed his last name to her maiden name. His grandmother, Vanessa Redgrave, told the Daily Mail in October 2018, "Now he is Micheál Richardson, not Micheál Neeson." She clarified it wasn’t to avoid his father’s huge fame. "He wanted to keep his mother close," she explained. "Because she was an extraordinary actress. Absolutely extraordinary."

After Micheál, Liam and Natasha welcomed Daniel on August 27, 1996, in New York City. Daniel pursued his education at Tulane University, earning a degree in theater and digital media production in 2019. This information comes from his LinkedIn profile.

While still in college in 2017, Daniel ventured into entrepreneurship. He launched his own eco-friendly clothing brand called Pine Outfitters. He noted that Liam was not only a supportive father but also a big supporter of his business. After running Pine Outfitters for five years, Daniel closed the brand in 2022. He then partnered with his friend Adam Millman to launch De-Nada, a brand of additive-free tequila.

Daniel shared his passion for hospitality with the Irish Star in a January 2025 interview. He explained, "I come from a family where hospitality is everything." He added that both his father and mother "always cared about offering the best possible experience to their guests, family, and friends."

Daniel continues to keep his late mother’s spirit alive through the years. On the 15th anniversary of her passing in March 2024, he shared a touching message on Instagram. He wrote, "It’s been 15 years since you left this plane into forever and ever." He expressed hope to "reunite" with her someday. For now, he finds comfort "knowing you’re by my side every step of the way." Daniel hoped he was making her proud. He then added a playful nod: "I think you’d definitely be proud of my margarita skills." He remembered her as "the original ‘margarita mom’!" As a child, he would ask for a sip of her drink. She would "gently tell me no until I was older." He mused, "Who would have thought that one day I would start my own tequila brand and have too many margaritas within reach."
