(AOF) – Lhyfe, one of the world pioneers in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, inaugurated yesterday in Saint-Nazaire its demonstrator for the production of green renewable hydrogen offshore. It is the first time in the world that renewable hydrogen will be produced at sea. sea ​​operated by Centrale Nantes.

A first 6-month test phase is starting at the quay, in the port of Saint-Nazaire, to obtain initial reference measurements and test all the equipment (desalination systems, cooling, behavior of the stack, remote control, management energy, resistance to environmental conditions, etc.).

At the end of this first stage, Sealhyfe will leave for a period of 12 months off the Atlantic coast. It will then be installed less than 1 km from the floating wind turbine, fixed to the ground by a system of anchors and connected to the site’s underwater hub using an umbilical designed and dedicated for this application (transfer of energy and data).



At the end of this experiment, Lhyfe will have a considerable amount of data, which should enable it to design mature offshore production systems, and to deploy robust and proven technologies on a large scale, perfectly in line with European objectives. renewable hydrogen production of 10 million tons per year by 2030.

Sealhyfe has the capacity to produce up to 400 kg of renewable green hydrogen per day, or a power of 1MW.
