Lewis Hamilton retires from Formula 1 ?: the track left by Bernie Ecclestone

Bernie Ecclestone questioned Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 continuity, seven times world champion and considered the most influential driver in the last 15 years. According to the former CEO and executive director of the highest category of motorsport, the Briton is analyzing the possibility of not racing next year.

“A couple of days ago I spoke with his father and I realized immediately that he did not want to talk about his son’s future. I think he’s retiring, that he won’t run next year. His disappointment in Abu Dhabi was too great and I understand it, “the 91-year-old former director said in statements to the British press.

Hamilton, 37, with a world title record that he shares with German Michael Schumacher, both with seven, has a contract with the Mercedes team for two more seasons (2022 and 2023). Until the last date of this year’s world championship, he contested the crown head-to-head with Max Verstappen. In the definition in Abu Dhabi the crown was finally in the hands of the Dutch.

“Hamilton is now tied at seven titles with Michael Schumacher, it is the perfect time for him to fulfill other dreams. I think he can only lose in 2022, he has nothing to gain and we have to see who has the best car with the new regulations”, Ecclestone added.

The next season of Formula 1 comes with radical changes in the regulations in order to match the performance of the cars of the different teams. The regulatory modifications are the product of several years of work and include changes in the size of the tires and in the aerodynamics of the cars. Thus, it is sought to facilitate overshoots on the track so that there is more spectacle.
