Forget what you thought you knew about LEGO games. The upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Night isn’t just another brick-filled adventure. This time, it’s taking big swings, bringing a gameplay depth many superhero titles have missed. It feels like a true grand return for the Dark Knight in block form.
One of the most exciting changes focuses on the playable roster. We often see LEGO games pack in dozens of characters, but they all feel pretty similar to control. Not here. Legacy of the Dark Night will feature just seven unique heroes and villains. Each one promises a distinct combat style, special equipment, and various unique abilities. Beyond Batman himself, players can control Batgirl, Catwoman, Commissioner Jim Gordon, Nightwing, Robin, and even Talia al Ghul.
This game also looks to expand its world in a big way. Insider Gaming reports that Gotham City will be surprisingly vast, even larger than the detailed map found in Batman: Arkham Knight. The new LEGO Gotham will spread across four distinct islands. For comparison, Arkham Knight had three. The biggest of these new areas, South Island, is said to dwarf its Arkham Knight counterpart.

The development team has revamped the core gameplay, drawing inspiration from the beloved Arkham series. This focus on individual character playstyles and an expanded world makes it a LEGO game to watch out for right now. If the early glimpses and trailers are anything to go by, this title could truly reignite fan excitement for superhero games. We’re still waiting on a release date, but LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Night is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
